Prompt Basics

A support team at an illustrative mid-size SaaS company receives about 20,000 tickets a day. Each one should land in the right queue within a minute, tagged with a category, a priority and a flag saying whether a person must look at it. A language model can do that job: it reads the ticket and returns six fields of JSON. The prompt that asks for those fields is 270 tokens of instructions, the average ticket adds 230, and the answer is about 75. On Claude Haiku 4.5, at the prices Anthropic published for September 2026, that is $0.875 for every 1,000 tickets, or about $525 a month.
