In the third of Sierra's four gpt-4o runs of τ-bench retail task 0, the simulated customer mentioned only the keyboard at first. The agent found the order, read the keyboard catalogue, listed the exchange, got a "yes" and called exchange_delivered_order_items for that one item. In its very next message the customer asked to exchange the thermostat as well. The tool answered Error: non-delivered order cannot be exchanged: the first exchange had moved the order to "exchange requested", and an order can be exchanged once. The agent then offered a return, which failed with Error: non-delivered order cannot be returned, and finally told the customer to contact support. The conversation cost 44% more than the successful run in Chapter 1 and scored zero.
